The impact of sectarianism on the formation of society in the Druze-Christian mountain in the Lebanese Shouf

Presented by Pr.Salma Samaha

This study proposes to highlight the society regarding the specificity of the two Lebanese religions, the Druze and the Christian co inhabiting it. This paper also studies the concealing of conflicting facts about the reality of the Christian refugees’ return to the villages from which they were forced to flee during the tragic events of the 1983 war in the mountain, and which were witness to the sectarian conflict and the political balance following the civil Lebanese war. Those stigmas that summarize the general situation, besides other tangible signs, symbolize the existence of reciprocal harmonious relations between the two sects and a humane organization, as well as the evolution of these relations during the ages.

Can this general overview be the basis for an historical tourism preserving the message of memory in order to start a positive united future?
